There are three different spellings for the name of the most honored heroine in American history. Lewis and Clark, wrote her name exactly the way they thought it sounded. We have to remember that a Frenchman was pronouncing her name to them. The only way they knew to write it was phonically. In the journals the spelling is: Sacagawea.
