Southern Oregon - Oregon Telephone Directory

Roughly defined southern Oregon is the region from the California line south of Ashland, Oregon in the southern part of the Rogue River Valley to just north of Roseburg, Oregon. Lying between the coastal Range of the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, southern Oregon is a mountainous area. It is more like northern California than the rest of Oregon.

Travel the southern Oregon region by well-connected highways.
Interstate 5 links the urban areas of the west side of the state while highway 97 covers the length of the east side. So wherever you begin your southern Oregon visit you are never too far away from Oregon' natural wonders.

Gold first brought white settlers to the southern Oregon area but the timber kept them here. Gold mining is still prevalent in the area as well is timber and logging trades.
The legacy of the gold rush days when stagecoaches traveled the rough Trails of Oregon between Sacramento and Portland remains in the picturesque towns.

Towns like Jacksonville, Oregon or Grants Pass, Oregon, and Medford, Oregon are known for their restored buildings and antique stores in the southern Oregon region.

Grants Pass, Oregon, benefits from a mild climate and is ideal for outdoors past times and activities. Fishermen have been casting their lines into streams and rivers for Steelhead Trout and Salmon. They fish the Rogue River, Applegate River, and the Umpqua River and many other streams with cold waters flowing down from the Cascades and into southern Oregon.
