Grants Pass, Oregon started out as a stop on the stagecoach road between Sacramento, California and Portland, Oregon. It was more than likely the excellent weather and its close proximity to some of the most spectacular scenery that made it much more than a crossroads town. With the Rogue River running through the center of town, it is no surprise that most recreational activities focus around the water. Located at the junction of I-5 and U.S. 199 Grants Pass, Oregon is also the largest town as you are heading for the redwood forest.

Grants Pass, Oregon makes a good base if you are trying to see a big region in a short time.

Crater Lake National Park. is located 90 miles North of the Northern California Coast and about the same amount of miles from Grants Pass.
