Communications along the Pony Express Trail

As 1860 approached, the country had just gone through a great migration, following the Trail to Oregon and California. As people moved west of the Rocky Mountains, it was in need of a service, to get messages to their relation back home. The Pony Express Trail was established as a means of maintaining communication with them.

From April 3, 1860, to October 28, 1862, The Pony Express Trail riders carried mail from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California they met the growing demand for rapid communications back and forth from east to west.

The Pony Express was a service of "fast mail". There were trails to the east and west but not one could be used all the way. So The Pony Express Trail riders took short cuts when they could, shortening the total distance substantially.
